Fr Andrew was born and raised in Brisbane. While in high school, he embarked on a search for truth and for God’s religion. After much study into various religions and philosophies (and lack thereof), he ultimately found Orthodox Christianity, after which he was received into the Orthodox Church in November 2002.
He was ordained to the diaconate in February 2012 (in the presence of the relics of St Innocent of Irkutsk), and to the priesthood in May 2014 (on the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman), both times being assigned to Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church. He has been particularly active in running the parish education program, and has run Bible study series’, courses about Orthodox Christianity, and numerous catechism courses to prepare people to join the Orthodox Church. Since May 2016, when Fr Alexander was also made rector of the Vladimir Icon Parish, Fr Andrew has also been leading worship at Holy Annunciation. Additionally, in March 2017, Fr Andrew was also made Rector of St John the Baptist Mission, Toowoomba.
Fr Andrew authored ‘Discover the Church: The Whats and Whys of Orthodox Christianity‘ (2012) and ‘Every Day the Lord Added‘ (2013). Visible on social media, Fr Andrew can be found on Facebook (link) and on Snapchat (‘frandrewsmith’). He has served as sys-op of OrthodoxWiki since July 2005, and is part of the administrative team of ‘Orthodox Christians of Australia‘, the official Facebook group for the Episcopal Assembly of Oceania. He is married, and he speaks English and basic AUSLAN.
