Priest Alexander Borodin, 2010-2017

Priest Alexander BorodinFr Alexander was born and raised in Brisbane of Russian Orthodox parents.  On 13 September 1998 (the feastday of the Holy Cincture of the Mother of God), he was ordained by then-Archbishop Hilarion (Kapral) of Sydney to the diaconate at the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church, Rocklea, where he served for eight years.  He was then transferred to serve at St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral, where he served for a year.

Accepting a position in Canberra in November 2007, he was transferred to St John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church there, where he was ordained a priest on 7 July 2008 by Metropolitan Hilarion of Sydney in the presence of the relics of Royal Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth and Nun Martyr Barbara.  He served both as assistant priest at St John the Baptist Church and also as the rector of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, Wollongong.

In December 2009, he moved back to Brisbane due to issues relating to the healthcare of one of his children.  He was appointed rector of Sts Cyril and Methodius Russian Orthodox Community, Gold Coast, before being appointed the rector of Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church in July 2010.  In May 2016, he was also appointed rector of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church, Rocklea – where he had started serving many years prior – and began serving there full-time.  In August 2017, he was relieved of the rectorship of Holy Annunciation, with Fr Andrew Smith being appointed rector.

Fr Alexander is part of the administrative team of ‘Orthodox Christians of Australia‘, the official Facebook group for the Episcopal Assembly of Oceania.  He speaks English and Russian, and is married with three children.

This biography is provided as part of a parish history.  As parish priest, Priest Alexander Borodin was preceded by Archpriest Michael Klebansky (interim rector) and, before that, Priest John Weir, and he was succeeded by Priest Andrew Smith (our current rector).
